The Prince – Review

Spring Break! Finally! I was looking over Kiera Cass’s website to find out the release date of her second book, and lo, and behold! I found The Prince! Even better, it was available on the iBookstore. Needless to say, I freaked out!!

A night prior to the Selection, there was another girl in Prince Maxon’s life: Daphne.

The Prince tells a story of Prince Maxon, and Daphne, his love. Bound by the Selection, Maxon at first, refuses to acknowledge his love for her. On the first night of the Selection, he realizes that he’s in love with Daphne. But it’s too late. Thirty-five girls are part of the Selection, and Prince Maxon is torn.

The writing and plot are nothing worth noting. Cass fails to emphasize the heartbreak and emotions of Prince Maxon. It’s dialogue, after thought, after dialogue, after thoughts. In the book, Prince Maxon acts as a tool for his country and his father. He is powerless. It is worth noting that the most well-written part of this book is the preview of The Elite.

One sentence summary: Part of The Selection series, The Prince is a dryly written novella that explains Maxon’s view of the Selection.

The Selection – Review

Image

The Selection is a contest to win the heart of Prince Maxon. For the 35 girls picked, it is a chance of a lifetime. But for America Singer, being part of the Selection means leaving her secret love, Aspen, behind. She unwillingly joins the contest, and is a favourite to win. When she meets Prince Maxon, she begins to question her own intentions. Living within a castle plagued with rebel attacks, and the fierce competition, America needs someone to rely on.

The Selection is a wonderfully written, humorous, and captivating novel by Kiera Cass.

From the first page, America was thrown into an interesting (by that, I mean cliché) situation with her financial problems, secret love with Aspen, to getting thrown into the Selection against her will. America progresses from a (dare I say it) a one-dimensional character into this very complex and mind-battling character who captures the likes of Prince Maxon. He befriends her, as an insider to find the real intentions of the other girls. The book is extremely fluffy, and cliché, but oddly captivating and a page-turner. I cannot wait for the second book!

One sentence summary: Basically, it’s The Bachelor in book form.
